Shoulder Blade Back Pain

What Is Shoulder Blade Pain?

Shoulder blade pain — sometimes called interscapular pain — is discomfort felt in or around the flat, triangular bones (the scapulae) that sit on either side of the upper back. It can show up as a dull ache, a sharp stab between the shoulders, or a burning sensation that radiates into the neck and arms.

Why It Happens

Most cases are linked to muscle strain, poor posture, or long hours spent hunched over a desk or phone. Less commonly, the pain can be referred from problems in the spine, lungs, or even the heart, which is why persistent pain deserves attention.
